Designing for ISE: give the technology something to say

An audiovisual exhibition can be full of screens and still leave a visitor unsure what is being offered. A stand’s job is to make that offer easier to discover, try and discuss.

This guide was first published ahead of ISE 2025. We have updated it as a discussion of exhibition design for technology businesses, rather than presenting it as a completed project at that edition.

Begin with the demonstration

Before choosing surfaces or devices, establish what someone needs to experience. Do they need to hear a difference, compare two solutions, take part or watch a specialist at work? Each activity calls for different space, lighting and timing.

Bring audiovisual content into the design process early. Its duration, format and viewing distance influence the architecture and the visitor’s route.

Make room for conversation

An attention-grabbing demonstration and a useful meeting do not always need the same conditions. Plan clear transitions so that a visitor can reach the right conversation without being forced through the entire experience.

Storage, connections, equipment control and access belong in the brief too. Resolving them early helps the stand work through the whole show, not just in a project image.

Keep the identity clear

Colour, materials and messages should belong to the brand. Technology earns its place when it helps explain the offer; adding devices is not a substitute for a clear idea.

The photographs accompanying this guide show noisySTUDIO’s Nemotec stand at Expodental 2024 as an exhibition design reference. They are not an ISE project. External HPE references previously used here have been removed to avoid confusing them with our work.
